Idea #6015: [Brainstorm] Add the ability to fix incorrectly linked duplicates

Written by dustigroove the 29 Mar 08 at 16:55. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Status: New
Rationale
PROPOSED: Add capability to report/fix false duplicates.

There should be a way to have incorrect Brainstorm duplicates fixed and the original duplicate reports peer reviewed with final authority by a moderator.

I have seen a good number of ideas marked as a duplicate in which the ideas had similar qualities, but were not AT ALL the same ideas. These incorrect associations result in incorrect vote tallies and forcefully restrain each authors original ideas by unfairly filtering it through somebody else's words.

No more idea hijacking!

Ubuntu Brainstorm was updated in January 2009. Since the idea #6015 was submitted before this update, its rationale and solution are not separated. Please vote accordingly, and if you have the necessary rights, please separate the rationale from the solution. Thanks!

I agree! one of my ideas got hijacked by an earlier duplicate, but the original had basically zero description and only a few votes. When I searched for the idea, I couldn't find one similar. The one it got put on was months old. Now mine with lots of votes, good description, and popular got put into it and it will never see the light of day again.

We need a way to prevent newer popular ideas from being hijacked by defunct and unpopular descriptions of the same good ideas.

The best idea of the group should win.

Too right! I've got an idea which encompasses THREE points I wanted to get across, yet it was marked as a duplicate of a very small idea which was PART of ONE of the points. Where do I complain about this?
