Idea #5993: Applications should automatically unmount devices when needed

Description
Recently I needed to erase a DVD-RW to copy a new .ISO image on it. When I put the DVD into the writer, Ubuntu automatically mounted it on a certain mount point (this because that DVD wasn't blank but containing some data).
When I opened GnomeBaker and tried to erase it, GnomeBaker crashed because the resource (the DVD) was busy (or mounted).

Just as a CD burning program can't write on a mounted CD, other programs like partitioning ones can't work on mounted partitions.

So, I think some applications (like GnomeBaker) may have the possibility to automatically unmount devices without asking user interaction in case they need to operate on them.

We could also have the gnome program that burn cds by default, erase the data if asked.

Brasero does this and is included in Hardy by default.

And what happens if a user is editing a file on the device? That might not be a problem if he's about to burn a CD but it is if he's about to partition and doesn't know he should better save his documents.
