Description
When Ubuntu for PPC was deprecated, I hoped for a bright future for ubuntu on Intel based Macs. Unfortunately, Macs are very particular machines (no MBR, multitouch trackpad in notebooks etc) so it's still very tricky to install ubuntu on those machines. Ubuntu's mission is to bring ubuntu to human beings so I really would like to see a flawless installation on apple computers too!
This is my dream: a custom CD image (or an option during the standard installation procedure) to make possible for every "human" to automatically install ubuntu on Apple hardware.
IMHO this would be feaseable, also because Apple computers are distributed in very standard configurations worldwide and they are not so frequently updated...

I highly doubt Apple would be willing to help out. :p
Wouldn't surprise me if they would try to stop it too.
I guess we need to make Ubuntu work with EFI (if it doesn't already) for this to work.

it brings me pain just thinking about wiping out Mac OS X on Mac Intel HW and replacing it with Ubuntu. I would personally much rather run Ubuntu on top of Mac OS X via VMWare Fusion.
Out of curiousity, why or why would you buy relatively expensive HW tuned to run Mac OS X well and replace it to run Ubuntu natively? no offense. I am genuinely curious to the motivation here.

@nextstep, eldmannen:
I agree: Apple is not the fairest and ethically correct company out there. I don't like their methods and their attitude towards Open Source software. However there are a couple of motivations of my choice for a mac instead of another PC: for professional reasons I have to use professional software which doesn't run on linux. For that reason I unfortunately have to run anoter OS in dual boot with ubuntu. I absolutely don't want to run windows anymore, OSX is a lot better if compared to Windows Vista. That's why I'm choosing Mac OS as my secondary OS. I've to say I'm pretty satisfied with my MacBook Pro, it's solid, powerful and ...beautiful.
Eldmannen: We don't need Apple support to make ubuntu working out of the box with apple hardware. Ubuntu already works on apple hardware but if you are a "human" user you're getting problems during the installation and configuration process: you have to manually install wifi drivers (with ndiswrapper) and use a thirdy party kernel. Why ubuntu devs don't include this kernel and that driver in ubuntu installation CD? it's not impossible!
