Rationale
In some aplications we can select files from a list but sometimes in needed to preview the file (i.e. images) what are you choosing.

Do you mean preview the items (photos...) when attaching to email? This feature is already implemented as far as I know.

...and in normal browsing, you can configure nautilus preferences to show thumbnails by default.
