What software are you referring to?
The GIMP team seems to already know, that this is important.

I'm a designer and i dream to work only in ubuntu with a great support of cmyk in inkscape and gimp (scribus works fine)!

The Gimp Team plans on implementing this after they finish with GEGL. :]
