But this piece of Software isnt open. I'm against closed Source Software in the repositories because you couldnt fix bugs or add functionallity or learn something by reading code!

And yes, Ubuntu needs Software for Education. Look at the KDE Education Project. Here are my favorits (math only):

* Qalculate! - very good scientific Calculator with easy Gui
* kmPlot - function plotter
* kig - geometrics

On official page is said to be software libre:

Oh, im sorry. The german text on the website says only that it is "kostenlos" this means free of charge. And now I read at Wikipedia that it is under the GPL... Ooops ;)

Yes, I need it for school and you can install it very easily but you need to take steps with the cd thing and that is sometimes confusing!
