Idea #5689: Marketing to the average Joe

Written by yoman82 the 25 Mar 08 at 15:02. Category: Accessibility. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Let's face it. Most (90%) of the current Ubuntu users are people with some SERIOUS computer experience. If we want to become larger, get more users, we will need to start targeting the general market- Business people, parents, and others who have never really done anything with computers except opened up a word processor. We need to appeal to those people by showing how easy it is to do the various tasks they do everyday, browsing the internet, doing work, emailing friends/ whatever. We need to show how easy it is to use, and how it will help their productivity and fun. We should also emphasize that they won't need antivirus software or repair runs, and they can still run Windows programs with WINE. The Dell systems were a step in the right direction, but unless we market Ubuntu, average Joe will say "WTFs Ubuntu? Windows forever, even if it costs $100 more."
