Description
ubuntu usplash background is very dull, just dark black.
Why not make it brown or any other suitable color?

Take a look on Fedora and OpenSUSE

YES!
This is a good idea.
Boot splash of ubuntu would be great with a more corporate look than now.

Something like http://zone13.digitalgrafis.com/files/intelmac_red_16001024_notxt.jpg as background could be very beautiful.

The "show details" of fedora's boot splash could be useful

Yeah, and on OpenSUSE you can "Press Esc for more information"...

I want faster booting most of all...

agreed. the OS is designed with ease of use at mind to begin with. Having a clean interface, as well as a boot screen should give a better feel for the users.

Better yet, why not let users choose which usplash to use (in an easy way)

I like the black background

I like the current one, it is just booting, you shouldn't even notice it.

NOT orange! Please! I like black, and brown would be okay, but orange is too bright to be a backgrownd colour.

I think the devs might have something in the works for hardy. I believe i saw this on the blueprints awhile back.

an advantage I see to the black splash screen is that
- for CRT screens (or even some LCD screens) that don't stretch images of low resolution, you avoid the "black border" effect, and it all looks very good because you do not distinguish the splash from the rest
- it hides the borders on CRT monitors
- it scales somewhat well with the resolution

it does not matter the color, it should be faster and smooth, just stop from blinking...

I would keep the black background, for the exact reasons elaborated above. I think one of the ideas for hardy was to integrate the boot screens so the screen doesn't flicker so much, which I think would look teh rockzorz. An easier way to configure usplash/upstart(?) screens would be nice, though. preferably thru a GUI.

i just realize that orange is not suitable enough (thanks, loonyphoenix).
Just any color that looks ubuntu-ish.

or something customizable maybe?

Fantastic idea.

Like they say at Uncyclopedia;

"God that thing is ugly!!!" -Captain Obvious on usplash

Yea, would be nice. In Linux mint that's by default.
