Description
Gimp is a great software but some very useful features will come in next releases (2.6, 3.0). The next version will not come before at least 2 years at that rate...

Yes we need 16-bit depth color channel support and CMYK Color model.

The want to get GEGL implemented before they start working on 26-bit and CMYK. =/

Development will probly spark up soon since Gimp is in Google Summer of Code, so... =]

Just an idea.
Maybe the developers should set up a donation system. The money goes to helping the project in whatever way possible.

Theres a lot of ideas out there already for things like bounties and just plain donations.

Yeah, if you start a donation drive or something, maybe you'll get them enough money to hire a full time developer or 2

Gimp is not directly related to ubuntu.
If you want to help try donating money to the gimp.

Of more significance to ubuntu is going to be whether to promote Gimp or Krita by default. Krita already has many of the most asked for features wanted in Gimp, and has been fairly fast in closing the gap on other capabilities. If Gimp development remains slow, it may become irrelevant anyhow.

Actually, I think it would be nice if Gimp started work on something a bit more modern (employing GPU a lot more, and is more flexible, like CS3)

better of using photoshop under Wine, cuz GIMP development is stuck in the win95 days.

The funny thing about Krita is... Krita is a kde app! If they keep up with the development speed, maybe we will see gimp team "backporting" functionality from them, or even a gtk version.

Not tryong making them look less important, though. In fact I work with kde and I feel more confident on it, and krita looks very promising. But -maybe because of it- the truth is gimp needs more help. There are lots of things to be improved on gimp, and since they are a veteran app, they deserve any help they can get. "+1: get them some help".
