Agree! mechanic will be wiped out totally soon.
But flash based SSD - isn't a good choise. Flash is a dead-end tech. Hope, phase change memory or mag-resistive memory will replace it as soon as possible!
And while any tech is in use, Ubuntu must handle with it without problems. Including hybrids.

It would be cool if it could be used for various tasks. There's no reason it should only be used for speeding up startup since Ubuntu users rarely restart their computers.
It could maybe be used to install a part of the operating system instead so Ubuntu always runs faster. Maybe if someone wants a fast swap space, it could be used for that. Or you could install your favorite applications on it.
I guess you see the point. There is no reason why we shouldn't support this in one way or the other.
I mean we know SSD drives are coming out and most computers come with tons of RAM so maybe there are other ways of utilizing it.
