we can't with Skype, it's closed source, and I don't think it'll work with Ekiga.
The Pidgin team wants it done a very certain way, so... =/

I'm not trying to be offensive.. You cant just merge code though unfortunately, so I don't think this will work. I'd love to see Pidgin get AV, but this isn't really possible I think

Pidgin (GAIM) has been working on this for some time now. (Years) From what I have read from them in the past, they have decided to take their time on this. This does not appear to be a priority to them. They have a fork project that did this, but I can't remember the name right now.

The fork was called gaim-vv (http://gaim-vv.sourceforge.net/) and appears to be dead now.

MSN Messenger is closed source. Reverse engineering?

Skype uses strong encryption for everything making 3rd party clients impossible. Secuirty has already been discussed in blackhat conferences and you can found info about it. If you think you can reverse-engineer it, then good luck.

Not necessarily. Is it possible to install Skype; then Pidgin could use this copy of Skype.

Wiplash4 wrote on the 26 Mar 08 at 20:44
And of course ekiga is not closed.

Off topic: Why people still use Skype? Skiga is a much moreefficient proticol!

NachoBlanco wrote on the 28 Mar 08 at 17:54
Pidgin could use Skype's API. And people use Skype and not Ekiga just because much of the not-care-about-free-as-freedom-software users use it.

I would love to see Ekiga and Pidgin merge.

Ekiga and Pidgin merge, I wonder if that possible.

Pidgin needs audio and video.

Ekiga needs promotion (it works fine for me and easy to setup), improvement, setup and usabilty improvements.

Do they use the same language?
I don't know if it's possible or not...
Pidgin's getting Voice/Video through Google's Summer of Code this year....

By the way: Redefine the statuses:
1. Available
2. Away: Messages are collected and appear, when I change status to "Available.
3. Invisible: Appear offline for blocked users
4. Occupied: "Invisible and "Away".

Please delete all the other statuses and do not automatically save statuses!

And by the way: Repair this Auth. system and blocking sysem.
