Description
Instead of having Xserver and GDM just popup like they do now, there should be a nice smooth transition effect between them; like a fade effect similar to the way the screen fades before Xscreensaver comes on. This would make for a smoother login process.
So there would be a fade effect between Usplash and GDM, then after logging in it would fade into the desktop.

This would increase startup time. Think about it people.

Pretty cool idea.
It could increase the user experience.
But if it would increase startup time, then I vote no.

Hey I think it should be an option available for people with high end machines, oh wait I think it is... Right click on your desktop and got to the tab on the end, think this only affects the desktop though, maybe then extend it to the boot screen for these graphical lovers.

I dont' know if a smooth process is the most interesting, but actually, depending on your hardware, the beginning of X sessions can be particularly violent (and pieces of pictures, probably stored in the cache memory, are displayed), and this really looks like something will break in the computer. So I vote +1.
