Description
Standard is this terrible BEEP noise when the computer failures. Why are not activated from the beginning pleasant system sounds? There is the possibility to change the system sounds manually in the preferences. The implemented sounds are a little bit boring and hear all the same.

Like the Borealis sound theme or something else.

Hear yourself

I'm with you on this one! I'm glad they started to open up the process of making the looks on Ubuntu for this release. Next up is the sounds, I hope!

I started a thread on ubuntuforums.org about this, and there is someone enthusiastic about making new sounds. Let's hope he (and hopefully others with him) get a-rockin'!

Demoted 'cause if the computer fails, pulseaudio may also fail...

Please no sounds, no beeps.

Borealis is great. I've been using it ever since I tried the Gentoo-based Sabayon.

@Eldmannen: Turn off your speakers. Sound is part of the "Look and Feel" of the thing.

Yes!

Kill the beeps and provide a suitable list of choices. Perhaps an implementation similar to that of installing themes on Kopete would be nice too.

I love that sound theme posted here! :D

While some may not like system sounds, I believe it can make many users more comfortable in their OS. In fact, it acts as the first real influence the designer of the system will have on the user.

It may have no technical advantage to speak of; it just makes the user more comfortable.

If a user doesn't like there system sounds, they can be easily turned off without hassle.

I believe users can be more willing to work if given system sounds.

To get rid of the terrible beep:

$ sudo -s
# rmmod pcspkr
# echo "blacklist pcspkr" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

:)
