Idea #5441: Improve ATI integrated graphics

Written by mp3phish the 22 Mar 08 at 20:44. Category: Hardware support. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
there are TONS of laptops out there with ATI graphics which will not work with ubuntu or kubuntu in 3D mode. Please work with AMD's latest initiative to give specs on their ATI cards and get a driver that works well. This is probably the #1 compatibility problem out there (even when compared with wireless or sound cards, they are #2 and #3 IMO)

I know what you mean... I have laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon 1100 and 3D without fglrx is only a dream.

Fglrx usually means only more problems so I'm almost forced to use open 2D drivers.

And how do you reccon Ubuntu should change that?

ATi is an individual company, ubuntu can cry and whine all it wants, if ATi says no, it's no.

Luckly ATi(AMD) is changing this, slowly.

What your asking for now, is to get Ford to talk to Shell to get you cheaper gas ...
