Related to: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Description
As clearly as that, multimedia codecs should be included
in default installation only installed when user agrees
to Restricted drivers copyrights(most of users still
dont know about what are multimedia copyrights from
windows environment),i mean drivers for playing
MP3,most popular audio and video formats.most of users
agree to install codecs if they dont let them install
Ubuntu JEOS.
if this is not achievable,Make a Deb packages for most
popular codecs(as in xp) for playing these files and
make it available on ubuntu website.its frustrating
to find that i need to download every time i install and
one codecs version doesnt work with all Ubuntu versions
like different codecs for different Ubuntu versions
fawn,gutsy etc.

Look this: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/2111/

Maybe this post is duplicate or maybe not. My idea is much flexible.

Terrible idea.

I don't want to sacrifice ubuntu's freedom just so people save 1 minute of their lives.

Double click file , get asked to download codecs and accept, isn't that terribly easy already?

100% agree with vexorian

I also agree with vexorian. Codec installation is not easy enough?

The legal issue with the codecs isn't whether or not they're enabled, but simply whether or not they are being redistributed. This wouldn't work from a legal standpoint.

I don't get the idea of the .deb for popular codecs either simply because it really already exists - just enable the 'multiverse' repository and install ubuntu-restricted-extras.

its only in europe that you talk of copyrights,DRM,and
multimedia codecs.in asia and developing countries still
dont have such rules and never imposed on common user, even there isnt 100% literacy so how come software rights and mm rights, huh?,its only uk and us that have developed insane copyright system that's incorrect in its own nature na dms boasting it.see one buys a legal dvd of movies but he can ask for permission to make its own copy and give it his friends and family.does other family member need permission fro European union, shucks
