Idea #5329: Include numlockx in the default installation

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #3596: Num lock on by default on login.
Written by DJ_Peng the 21 Mar 08 at 18:48. Category: System. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Many of us have our BIOS set to turn on NumLock at boot, but as soon as GRUB starts its boot process the NumLock is disabled. The only way to find a solution to this issue is to search to find out that we need to install numlockx and possibly edit /etc/gdm/Init/Default, which we shouldn't have to ask noobies to do if they're not comfortable with it. Ubuntu should respect the user's BIOS preference out of the box, or at least give us an easy way to change the setting, possibly with a GUI if possible.

Please move this if it's in the wrong section.

Yes, Ubuntu should respect the user's BIOS preference out of the box. There is no need to change it.

Would this affect laptops? cause in laptops it would be really annoying to have Numlock on by default.

You're right, I used to use a laptop and it would be a pain to have that turned on all the time. Ideally it could be an option that the user would check to use or disable, but either way it should follow our BIOS settings if nothing else.

Yes should follow the BIOS, not be turned on automatically

Believe it or not but I know someone who is using an other distro because he got so frustrated about this. Make it happen so I can force him to use ubuntu :P
