Idea #5309: Merged Brainstorm ideas should show all contributing authors

Written by Auzy the 21 Mar 08 at 13:42. Category: Brainstorm.
Related to: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Description
When ideas are merged, all authors should earlier submitted ideas (and the current one marked dupe), should be listed in the idea.

So say we have ideas 1, 2, 3. All are dupes of 1.

When 2 is marked as a dupe, it should have authors 1 and 2. It doesn't have 3 though, because none of 3's input when into 1 and 2. 3 however should have authors 1 and 2 added to theirs in order of ideas. (Basically just authors further down the tree should be appended).

Brainstorm is about ideas, not about boosting peoples ego and "hey look at me".

But if they are duplicates then the authors of the duplicates aren't really contributing anything.

This shouldn't be about who came up with the idea, it should be about whether people like the idea and if it gets implemented or not.

Who cares?

My .. is bigger than yours.

Credits is for people that implement the idea. Just submitting incoherent ramblings that could really use a spell-checker is not contributing.

Haven't you figured it out yet? The idea behind brainstorm is to move these discussion OUT of launchpad, so they are not in the way of the developpers.

And maybe they glance 2 seconds at the top rated to decide which area needs most work. But 99 out of 100 ideas here, esspecially the popular ones, are impossible and with complete disregard for the architecture. The one idea that is possible, is likely just illegal.

If they would come here and explain for 1% of the bugs, what would all brake if they did it like that, or how much work it would be. They wouldn't have time to make Ubuntu in the first place.

This site is just daycare for the babies. Keep them busy, make them feel part of it.

The ideas I see here, that actually get votes, are almost all impossible, illegal or would just break all unix conventions.

Ubuntu packages and tweaks upstream software. They can't develop a Visual Studio clone. They don't write software. Nor can they go ahead and change the core linux/gnu infrastructure, because then would need to change all upstream software. And again, and again, for every version of that software.

Well, I'm not saying that its about egos.. Its about the constant screaming of "Why was my post marked dupe, when it was posted a month before the other guy".

I just thought I'd suggest it because marking ideas with multiple authors may stop people worrying about it so much.
