Why?

You don't like hearing about areas where we are behind in?

And it adds extra weight if something works in Windows and OSX, and it doesn't work on linux. Remember, we are competing.

-1, Just because you have no comeback against the "but it works in windows" line, doesn't mean they should be banned. It should be established which things work where, and if we still don't want it, argue why.

Best features from all system to one! Why not if its comfortable? You may choose use this one or not - you just have one more choose.

We should do whatever is the best thing to do. If there is something that works really really well in another OS that by comparison sucks in Ubuntu - let's change it and do it the way *they* do it, only even better.

good ideas should stay, just present them without "it's better on windows.." or "my windows can do that.."
prefer :
"why not doing things like this :
explanation.."
stop taking mac/windows as an argument plz
great idea no ?

I agree with most of the comments, let it be.

Ubuntu is doing something amazing, they are playing catch-up and also innovating the product. I agree that not everything should be benchmarked from Windows/Mac but in order for Ubuntu to be competitive the transition from Windows to Ubuntu should be made as easy as possible for all users. This will definitely include direct comparison to the previous OS, whatever it was.

There are certain areas of these other OS's that Ubuntu does better. You know that these will be mimicked by other companies when the customer demands it.

what do you think of this one :
"ubuntu should be windows !"
it make sense as windows is #1, most of us comes from windows, we are used to windows look&feel, softwares, gui.. , => ubuntu sould be windows ^^
what about users that don't have those windows habits ? they have to change for "the good way to do ?"
good ideas are good ideas wherever they comes from.. so stop using the "windows do that, mac do that" argument !

People who suggest adding proprietary software to poison our repositories should be banned.

I think it's safe to assume that everyone reading this thinks that Ubuntu is better than Windows. However, there is no avoiding the fact that Windows does some things better - it wouldn't have its massive market share otherwise.

Acknowledging our weaknesses is the first step in addressing them. Plus, you should always check what your competition's up to. I personally think that it wouldn't hurt for Ubuntu's GUI to respond similarly to Windows - it could help to attract some Windows users across.
