What exactly are you proposing here, other than to just "speed it up"? I don't have any problems with the speed of Nautilus.

If you are using nautilus often, you feel that nautilus is really slow! It is impossible slow for its functionality! If i compare with Microsoft Windows Explorer, it is a pitty for the Opensource-Community to have a really bad filemanager as default. Nautilus cannot handle FTP Connections on different Systems (Buggy) is slow, has no Tab-Browsing possibilities. My wish is, a lightweight, tabbed browsing Filemanager with Mouse Gestures and additional Plugins. I think that would be pcman Filemanager in future ;-)
