Idea #5133: Nautilus: preserve datetime while copying in FAT32

Description
When I copy files or directories to a FAT32 partition with Nautilus, date|times are not preserved. If I do the same operation with cp command using -p option, this error is shown:

cp: preserving times for `': Operation not permitted

If I do the copy with sudo privileges, datetimes are preserved! (with some other warnings). So ownership is required for keeping them. I think, having writing privileges is enough to set the date/time too. Could this be implemented?

OK! So now I think I know why my clock is always late only when I'm running Ktorrent (files go to a Fat32 partition).

A huge +1 for this one ;-)

I found another scenario where datetimes are not preserved: when I import photos from my Digital Camera with F-Spot Photo Manager. It does not matter if images are copied to FAT32 or ext3 filesystem, all datetimes are reseted. Controversely, F-Spot create folders for years, months and days looking into the date when the image was taken.

Should I submit a new idea instead of this comment?

Thanks people for making Linux more and more wonderful every day!

This is thanks to a bug in the new GVFS in Ubuntu 8.04. You can use jhead to correct your jpg file dates.
