Idea #502: Support for an OSX style "dock"

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #237: Functional dock.

Rationale
There are a few projects that are doing docs, but it would be great if Ubuntu supported a fully functional "dock" so that users could launch their favorite apps easily while looking at a beautiful icon.

I like the idea of the program launcher indicating if the program is already open, and allowing you to choose an open window....

but the OSX dock sucks really really bad and doesn't show the quantity of running tasks well.

so, you probably have a good idea, but your description of doing it just for cosmetics makes me want to vomit.
