Idea #50: Make tracked bullet-proof

bug This idea was marked as being not considered for implementation the 25 November 11.
Written by alejo the 28 Feb 08 at 15:37. Category: System. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: Won't implement
Rationale
As suggested in http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/46/ [use trackre for everything] tracker could be used to store a LOT of metadata. But tracker is still a lot buggy. And when searching you must type exactly what your searching. Sometimes you use "search" in file-picker and it returns an error or it hangs.

The idea is to make the user trust blindly in tracker for his/her data

Yeah, for being the standard search daemon in Ubuntu for awhile now, I'm very underwhelmed by it. It rarely finds emails and IM conversations I'm looking for, and frequently pegs the CPU at 100% for extended periods of time. Needs serious work before it will approach being useful to me.

Instead, Ubuntu stopped using Tracker.
