Description
Fade out audio on stop, pause and exit in audio players such as Rhythmbox (and possibly others).

So I listen to music in Rhythmbox, and I close rhythmbox, or press "stop" button, and instantly the music stops.
Goes from 80 decibels to 0 decibels in an instant!

Now, this isn't nice.

Make it instead "fade it out", so the volume goes down to none over the time of a second.
So it doesn't abrupt so hard. So it gently caresses my ears...

This would enhance the user experience of Ubuntu by making it more tranquil, relaxing and calm.

A second I feel is a bit long, but even 0.5secs would be a welcome change.

What comes to my mind: If I pause an the song fades for 0.5s, I would want the fade-in to resume 0.5s *before* I pressed pause - as to resume at full volume where I stopped. Just an idea.

I'd rather be able to CHOSE whether I want fade in/out. I find fade features to be more annoying really

really good idea, this also keeps your ears healthy.
it should also happen when a track changes as different tracks might have different max volumes and a sudden increase in volume is very irritating

I used to have this feature in rhythmbox in hardy (i686) - i don't recall doing anything special to enable it.

But i just did a clean install with i386 (due to a freezing problem) and now i don't have it! I'm trying to rediscover how to enable it, and i'll keep you posted on my progress.

Anyone else had better luck?

+1, it's a cool idea. The only thing is that it should have the option to be turned off since not everyone might be open to that.
