Rationale
I would really hope to see gfx grub in hardy, so I wouldn't have to stare at an ugly console-like screen. It would be great to have the Ubuntu install boot theme, which is subtle and appealing. I know this is a pretty small thing, but it would just be nice to have it, to give GRUB a more polished look. I also know it's not that hard to make gfx Grub work, but I would like it to be installed default.

What I heard of this was planed for LTS release Ubuntu hardy 8.04, but there was not enough time for the creation of the new ubuntu theme that will contain such theme for grub, but it is planed to be a part of the next release Ubuntu Ibex 8.10 :)

A bootloader should not be seen.
BIOS -> bootloader -> OS kernel
When the BIOS pass control of the system to the bootloader, the bootloader should IMMEDIATELY pass control to the OS kernel.

I support this as long as it doesn't increase the odds for boot failure.
Eldmannen: And it doesn't, unless you got windows in which it is necessary to see it...
