Description
Every time Ubuntu starts, you first have to wait 2 seconds for GRUB todo nothing. This steals 2 seconds of your start up time.
2 seconds everyday...

I propose to change so GRUB boots Ubuntu immediately without wait 2 seconds. This will be faster startup times.

For people who need to access the GRUB menu, they can just hold down a key such as CTRL, ESC or F8 or something.

You could change it to 0 seconds. The only drawback being that you could never change the startup options after that ;)

Similar to how Apple does it. This is better

It's just two seconds, learn some patience.

Its sounds bad when you say it saves 2 seconds, but really, its more then that I feel. Newbies dont like grub menu's

0 seconds, and press up/down arrows just before grub's loading to access menu. Works fine.

Edit "timeout=n" (in seconds) in /boot/grub/menu.1st file to suit your needs. Also, there are several other edit options to this file available.

mela1; I think the original poster means make this the default, I agree +1

AndrewC,
It is two seconds, every single day, every single (re)boot, for the rest of my life! That is many two seconds!

Auzy,
Indeed. It feels like an eternity.
2 seconds wasted for nothing. Who wouldn't want 2 second faster boot?

popi,
Yeah.

mela1,
I mean the default.

You can do this already.

And changing the default would be catastrophic

Let's have more "Ubuntu removed my XP! Bad software! I want a refund!" threads in the forums...

I think the best solution is that if computer have more OS's than ubu, then it should come like now. If not, then doesn't :)

Why would anyone sit there and WATCH grub and the boot if no action is needed?

Turn on the computer, go away. Come back in a minute or two to log in. Take off your coat, read your phone messages, check your mailbox, wash dishes, whatever. This is not the computer's time management problem....

Changing it to less that 2 seconds is more trouble that its worth. If your that impatient just edit your own setting.
Theres always more than 1 option so just because only ubuntu is installed doesnt mean that you shouldnt get a chance to pick another, recovery mode is there for a reason.
