Idea #473: Lifesaver - User Documents

Written by jamessnell the 29 Feb 08 at 02:06. Category: System. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Create a GUI to set a "sacred" directory (ex: family pictures) to automatically backup to a remote location incrementally.

This would backup multiple workstation's "sacred" files to
an Ubuntu box where one can login and view the incremental changes of the files plus recover/restore to whatever state they wish.

This would just be rsync/svn, sshfs, cron and python gui (perhaps truecrypt would get involved too).

Solution #1: Auto-generated solution of idea #473
Written by jamessnell the 29 Feb 08 at 02:06.
Ubuntu Brainstorm was updated in January 2009. Since the idea #473 was submitted before this update, its rationale and solution are not separated. Please vote accordingly, and if you have the necessary rights, please separate the rationale from the solution. Thanks!
