Idea #4716: Smart Environment

Written by dilomo the 15 Mar 08 at 10:21. Category: Look and Feel. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
It would be cool to have a theme that changes (colours) during the day or have a screen saver that in the winter is snowing and in the fall there should be leaves falling.

This is like Dreamscapes for windows i think.. Or the use of quartz backgrounds for OSX (with a custom proggie). The issue is, we need a framework to do this, and I cant personally think of anything we have that can do this :(

It is possible right now, well not easy, but possible, you can make a gtk theme with flexible colors and use a script to update it according to the time, the problem I can think of is that the screen might flicker for a second during the theme change...

The flicker may be a problem because these things should change smooth as the day->night sky. The app should be integrated well with GNOME as the keyboard break is.

sounds like someone should write a compiz-decorator with this ability.

This is one of the things I enjoy when I play my PS3. The default background changes over the day and over the year.

It would be cool if there was a default theme that mimics the colours in Africa over the year + the time of day. I think that would make more people "love brown" and it would give the OS a very unique look and feel.
