Idea #4660: Network bridging

Written by jokerejoker the 14 Mar 08 at 17:20. Category: Internet & Networking. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
I work with network allot and I always miss the bridging feature. Over a year ago I was a (So called advanced) Windows user, and I very often used the bridge function in the 'network manager'. Ubuntu is my favorite OS and I only use my Windows to run games, witch never happens ;).

My suggest is to make bridging tool in the network manager, or simply make a GUI for the bridge-utils, and make that gui default in the ubuntu dist.

I never used network bridging, but it sounds cool, so I agree!

I'd want to bridge a 3g internet connection with a wireless network that I can create with network manager. Then people could connect to my wireless network to access the internet

Thats my point ;) I wants to make a bridge from my wireless connection over to another computer that is cabled to my wireless computer...

Even more useful the other way around: I got a nokia N810 and no wireless at home... no problem, I tought, I just have to explain the laptop to "lend" it the wireless... Wrong! As far as I read setting up a bridging is beyoind my skills and perhaps tricky even for someone a lot better than me.
