Rationale
It's annoying when you've become in love with Ubuntu, but realize your Laptop functions don't all work properly.
Backlighting, Power Management, the Function Buttons, etc..

Talk to the vendors, demand for ACPI implementation documentation to be released to the Linux Kernel developers... That's the reason why they wont work.

I agree with toti05, laptops will take over as mobility becomes more and more important. Here most companies use docking stations instead of stationary PCs allready since the price/performance is allready okey and it gives all the employes som extra freedom at work... this philosophy is brought home and well, I say focus on laptops... power saving, get the function keys to work properly, flawless hibernate etc.
