Description
Currently, when using battery power, the battery status icon shows up in the panel and displays how much battery life you have left, and allows you to configure the power consumption options when you right-click and select 'preferences'. Thats good, but it'd be nice if you could just click on it and have it show a dropdown menu type thing that lets you select from some power consumption presets, like 'Hight performance', 'Extended battery life', 'Balanced', and 'Custom' (where it would then take you to the preferences window) sorta like how vista does it, so then you could just quickly select your power mode for that session without too much thinking/tinkering, and then still be able to tweak it some more from the preferences/'custom' option if you like...

There is a similar tool for WinXP available on IBM Thinkpads which is great cause you can switch to say "presentation mode" when your doing a PP or "travel mode" when you want the longest battery time. They even allow you to make custom battery modes. +1

+1 for you. This saves SO much time and is SO easy. I have no idea why this is being downvoted.
I guess we need to fix the power management first of all lol.

I think its being downgraded because it already exists.

@ HDave:
What applet is that?... because the default power/battery notification applet doesnt exactly have the properties I proposed, it just has an advanced options dialog, not the simplified one-click power option menu I suggested...
