Idea #445: Automatically recognize side mouse buttons

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #120: Mouse Button Extension.
Written by hyperq the 29 Feb 08 at 01:53. Category: Installation. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
I have a Logitech MX518 mouse with side mouse buttons. Every time I install a new release of Ubuntu, I have to change the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file manually to activate the side mouse buttons. The new 7.10 even required me to switch to a different mouse driver.

The Ubuntu installation programs should be smart enough to recognize side mouse buttons. At lease it should make it easy for us to enable side mouse buttons after installation.
