Idea #4445: READ IT ALL OR DONT VOTE: Have ideas removed when they reach -10 votes.

Related to: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Description
As well as have a category on the side panel where you can see ideas that are about to die.

This will give unpopular ideas a last chance to be seen before being removed altogether.

Putting the number at -10 makes it so that a slightly negative number won't hurt it and it has a chance to come back.

When ideas are at -7 they should be put on the "about to die" list and people can either save them from dying or push them on over the edge.

This is a great way for the community to get rid of spam posts too.

Ideas that are already below -10 at time of implementation should be artificially bumped up to -7 so they get a fair shake before taking the plunge into deletion.

Some ideas might be able to make better impressions if they are written better. Deleting them will free up others to re-submit the idea without being discouraged by a similar but poorly written post.

Dead ideas should be visible to the original poster, but invisible to others.

I dont think the current issue is people aren't reading it, its that some people here are being sheepish (ie, not making up their own minds, but listening to the boneheads who post comments which act authoritive and bossy), and assuming some things will never be implemented cause its too hard (like my kernel stable ABI/API patch).

So this fixes some of it, but then again, it turns this into digg, where a good headline wins. It makes more sense to expire ideas every 6 months or so.

so -1, its not bad thinking, but I'd rather see an expiration date on them

I don't agree on it, because I have seen ideas that I liked with -10... every idea should have it's chance!

Maybe delete ideas below -50 or -100...

That's stupid, if you remove the bad ideas from the list, they'll get posted again. People do a search and think that the idea hasn't been posted before.

Yeah remove this one! -1

Why delete ideas?
It's contrary to the concept of brainstorming.
It encourages multiple postings of the same unpopular idea.
It's not hurting anyone.

Even lousy ideas (like this one) have use....

Some ideas NEED to be resubmitted. Some ideas don't get properly explained or aren't fully thought out at the time of posting.

Sometimes the poster just has poor english and can't express what he is wanting to say.

I submitted an idea twice with two different titles and one is -10 and one is +11. Both are the same exact thing.

I did this again with the one about Animated backgrounds. In the first post I used the word "GIF" and that one is sitting at -20, the other one without the word "GIF" is sitting at 41.

So do NOT tell me ideas do not need to be resubmitted.

Many of you guys are stodgy stuffy pricks who react to a single word or worse yet, like to blast on people because they are thinking like Windoze users. Some ideas ARE good and need to be resubmitted.

But if I go to do an idea and I research it and find that it is already -50, chances are I'm not going to re-submit it, regardless of the fact that it just got NITPICKED to death and its core idea didnt really even get voted on because you guys are so damn finicky and petty.

Someone voted this down because they thought -10 votes wasn't enough of a chance. The figure "-10" is arbitrary. It can be changed. It is the CONCEPT that you are voting on. Is this Congress or something? Your not making laws. You're making suggestions.

Stop killing good ideas simply because you're too full of yourselves to look through the nitpicky crap and grab the gem inside.

Heres an idea Cheesehead, why don't you go and look up every idea I have had and vote it down. Looks like you're already trying.

Here's an idea for you Cheesehead, how about you refrain from telling people what is "contrary to the concept of brainstorming" when you don't even have a single idea yourself. If you knew anything about brainstorming, one might think you'd have some real good ones. But as they say, those who can't do criticize instead.

Darn straight!

Many ideas do need to be resubmitted with some extra work done on them - however how will the ideas be refined without the benefit of the discussion that occurred on similar ideas?
