Description
if compiz is enabled at boot have the desktop zoomed by default and maybe rotating, this will give the impression that the desktop comes to you when ready - otherwise watching gnome start then waiting for compiz (screen flashing and blinking) can be a little tedious

Actually there is a splash screen, but it is disabled by default (not such a waste, it is horrible). An improvement of it coud be the solution however... having the desktop rotating and zooming implies that compiz is already running at full speed which kinda contraddicts the very basis of all this discourse, don't it?

Interesting idea.
But better make boot as fast as possible.
First load GNOME.
Then load Compiz AFTER.

I agree with the last comment.
When I start Ubuntu, it takes about half a minute to ask me the user name and password, and after that quite a long neverending minute until I can say something in my screen. Why do not show a JPG taken from my desktop the last time I switched my PC off? Maybe with a loading bar? Something moving instead the black window, like saying "hey, I'm not dead, I'm still loading..."

As long as it doesn't slow down boot or log in I wholeheartedly agree...enough with the winking and blinking. It should be swift, solid looking and elegant.

This idea should not be in the category "brainstorm". That category is only for ideas about the Brainstorm website.
