Idea #4279: Resolve hardrive issue with laptops

Written by dbach the 11 Mar 08 at 19:56. Category: Hardware support. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
I started with Edgy Eft on my laptop and stopped using Ubuntu at Gutsy Gibon becuase I was on my third hard drive and found this was O/S related and worse Ubuntu knows about and doesn't seem to be doing anything to resolve it. Maybe there is a resolve and I'm not aware of it.

Um, what? Your post makes no sense. Ubuntu does something to your hard drive? If it is known, then link to the bug report or forum posts.

I really think it's terrible, and important enough for Ubuntu to take initiative on, but I really wish the manufacturers would just fix their drives because it's their fault in the first place.

Yes, Ubuntu is killing user's hard drives, while Windows does not. My load cycles increase about 200 per hour in Ubuntu, and almost 0 per hour in Windows. Of course, most of the people losing hard drives because of Ubuntu aren't even aware of it...
