Neat idea! What we learn to love as kids is what we choose when we grow up, so it makes sense as a gift to children. And Ubuntu plushies could make excellent gifts, and mascots on the workplace. Just make sure they are of good design and build quality. (Sloppy = bad marketing.) And irresistably *cute* of course!
This could be a great collectibles set if a new mascot was made for each and every 6-month release.

I think this is a doable idea. You see all these requests for "market ubuntu this, market ubuntu that." Well, it all costs money, and this is an idea that could actually raise money as well as enthusiasm. I suggest doing it. I'd buy a plush gutsy gibbon and display it proudly!
