Written by dragoninsane the 11 Mar 08 at 08:55. Category: Education. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
children and kids who want to draw something are very
excited in xp,because of paint utility.this offers them
improve drawing skills.A small and tiny application like
MSPAINT,would be great in default installation, note that
there are plenty of alternatives in linux like:
tuxpaint, xfpaint etc.i dont know which is the best,
but a small application would be great, optionally include ping pong like game also.

My kids love tuxpaint. Maby it should be installed by default under games? +1

I've also heard that maybe Paint.net could be made to run on mono. That would be a very useful addition. From what I read it wasn't feature complete yet though.

Tuxpaint is best such application. If it will be included in Ubuntu by default, it would be wonderful! Children like it very much, much more than MSPaint!

Tuxpaint is truly excellent. But, do all Ubuntu users have kids? I think not. Abstain.

ilikedirt wrote on the 11 Mar 08 at 13:53
Tuxpaint should be put in Edubuntu (if it's not - I don't know), but for Ubuntu I'd say no.

RyanPrior wrote on the 11 Mar 08 at 16:43
Perhaps Tux Paint is a bit too childish, but a less "cute" GTK app that could be used to create images and would be usable by children and adults alike could add some value to Ubuntu regardless of the user.

Naturally some users will want to download Tux Paint for their kids, or The GIMP for more power and flexibility, but many users might not need either of those extremes.

We already have KolourPaint for KDE.

Would bee nice with a program like KolourPaint but made for Gnome:-/ Tux Paint defualt in Ubuntu, eee, no(!).

Jut found GPaint:
http://www.gnu.org/software/gpaint/
http://gpaint.sourceforge.net/

Tuxpaint should be defult in Ubuntu. I am willing to bet more people would use it over GIMP for general use.

If ubuntu want more regular people to use linux, you gotta have a simple program.

@edcrypt -- thanks for point me to gpaint! It's perfect...they should mark this idea as implemented.

I have yet to find (haven't had nuch of a chance to look) a better graphics utility for old-fashioned pixel art than paint. we need something better by default than gimp.

Eldmannen wrote on the 20 Jul 08 at 21:53
Yeah, I want something crappy like MS Paint.
I run it under Wine.

I found a software called "GNU Paint" but it needs some improvement.

Gimp and Paint.net are too complex for beginners. Change GPaint to have glossy human icons and transparency support and you're done.
