And how would such a system be implemented? You'd have to modify the core of Gnome itself.

It can be done right now with xwinwrap and compizfusion, but it's distracting. Nice for showing off but useless for productivity, to say nothing of wasting cpu power.

i think this would be a very great optional feature.
and problem with xwinwrap is that it covers the icons.
