Description
I plug in my flashdrive into your Ubuntu based computer and I'm able to logon with my own profile, settings, docs and Ubuntu supported programs.

Sounds less like a persistent USB install, and more like mounting a USB stick as /home/. I think it would be a cool idea, however I would only find it useful if Thunderbird could have its POP3 settings and mail be stored in /home/user.
The problems start when the computer you plug in your USB stick to has different packages installed. That's not even to mention the security nightmare of being able to log in to someone else's computer using your username/password, and therefore having access to their hard drives/data.

It could be more like it mounts your /home// directory and any configuration files located in .dirs is loaded in favor of those existant on the computer. The only reason this couldn't work is that you'd need a local login on that machine, since you can't just go around typing a password that doesn't exist on any machine and storing your password on a usb drive is not the most ideal solution.
