Description
The biggest problem with Linux is that there is no easy way for big companies to distribute there products to us. If there was a store in the "Add/Remove Applications" window hopefully developers and companies won't be so scared of creating and selling Linux versions of software.
Maybe ID will release there games under this distribution system. If it works well hopefully Adobe will release there software and I won't need my Mac anymore.

The problem is that APT is Debian based. Software companies wouldn't want to limit their software to one specific packaging system. This unfortunately means they would have to make packages sor every different system.
It's much easier to create a universal installer similar to the way ATI does with their drivers.

Additionally I fear that many be seduced by such a store to leave the way of the source (way of the sword (Bushido) OSS-Style. XD) and become commercial in a propietary way.
Jedi shouldn't love to prevent jealousy. OSS-Developers shouldn't have an all too big eye on Money to prevent greed.
What can become of fallen Jedi we can see when we look at Microsoft (the Sith). ;)
I don't want Photoshop. I want a damn good Gimp.
So -1. Sorry.

I just think it would be beneficial to include a steam like install program into Ubuntu. As great as foss is, it is just impractical in the long run to exclude it. As a graphic designer I need to use the entire Adobe CS.

Already exists - commercial repositories.
For those programs that have no Linux alternatives, or offer features that you require and Linux alternatives don't have, that would be the place to get commercial programs from.

The repositories are for free apps only. I can't buy software from them.

Already exists: CNR.com (initiative of linspire which is based on ubuntu - the system is compatible with ubuntu)

(be aware though that cnr's client is iffily done, at best, and abuses several things to work. It also poses a security risk, by using things that weren't designed for that purpose)
