Description
In Nautilus I can choose Single Click, but this only a feature of Nautilus.
In the GNOME dialogs Open file, Save file, etc, I must do two clicks!
(In Windows the Single Click is for all system).

I think this should be an option in case someone wants it, but most definitely NOT default. A vast majority prefer the two-click and changing the default for the four or five people that prefer single click is not really a good idea. However, having the option there might be wise.
Actually, it might already be an option. I prefer two-click, and so haven't checked for the option. Does anyone know if it's already available?

Based on my experience with average computer users, I think most people prefer to double-click something to open it. Single-clicking often results in accidentally opening something you didn't want to open. That slows people down, since they have to wait for that unintended file/program to load, which they didn't even want to load, and then close it, and then open what they really wanted to open. That really annoys most people. I really do not think it should be enabled by default. (It was one of the first things I would disable when playing with KDE desktops)
However, I think when single-clicking is enabled, it should work across all relevant parts of the system.

It's a shame that the title of this entry is so ill thought through, because the point that it makes about click inconsistency in Gnome is entirely valid.
It's a problem that in my view should be rectified as soon as possible because the current mess is not only counter-intuitive and user hostile, it also impacts usability (especially for those with RSI or motor difficulty / disabilities) as well as going against the consistency and predictability principles of Gnome's own HIG.
Having said that, I never cease to be amazed by the ignorance of double-clickers when it comes to any issue relating to single click. Even people posting on the Gnome bugzilla link above were pontificating on the issue without even having the vaguest concept of how things like object selection are meant to work in a single click environment.

Please at least correct the bug of gtkchooser and let the user choose which one he wants. (single or double)
Single click power.

Single click option is REQUIRED if you have touchscreen!
Just not to double-tap objects.

The single click option would be lively for those with tablet PCs with Ubuntu on them. I don't think it should be the default, but I do think that the option should affect all of GNOME (not just Nautilus).

Thanks to andruk for taking the good solution to this problem and creating idea 5467. When you create an idea such as this one, you can pretty much count on people voting you down not because the idea of consistent single or double clicking is bad, but because the idea of changing the default is bad. -1 overall. +1 to idea 5467.
