quote howlingmadhowie:

>"adobe flash has become ridiculously slow"

The linux version is a sad attempt compared that of windows and macOS.

a few things were fixed, but performance has decreased dramatically.

vote for this bug at adobe website so we get it fixed!
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=756239

it has become terribly and painfully slow, even on modern dual-core processors, 2gb ram and the latest Nvidia Card. Older single core computers becomes virtually unusable in any website with flash elements.

does Adobe plans this on purpose so we stay with Windows?

Sadly this's a mayor blow on Linux once again.

if you already have v9,0,0,115 installed you can fix it by reverting to the last fully working version: v9,0,0,48 (i call this a "fix" not a downgrade)

by re-installing flash 9,0,0,48 we can solve this

go to
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266

download the archived file (70+ mb download)
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp9_archive .zip

double click the installer and when asked, open it in a terminal, follow the instructions.

another thing is trying running firefox and flash in wine... the performance is really good.

so i propose keeping v9,0,0,48 for Hardy 8.04 and future Ubuntu releases till Adobe releases a Fix to the Huge performance drop, leeks and dumb bugs in "native" flash (if you can call it that..).

i also propose keeping v9,0,0,48 in the repos, for anyone who mistakenly "upgraded" :/

You might be experiencing some bug in the Flash player, your video driver or some other component in your system.

On my Ubuntu systems (currently: 32-bit Ubuntu 7.10 and 64-bit Ubuntu Hardy alpha 6), Flash is not slow, and not noticeably slower than on Windows.

So it's not a problem that every Ubuntu user has.

@jespdj

what flash version you have ?

like i said flash 9,0,48,0 goes fast. But the latest 9,0,0115 is much much slower (in windows it goes at a good speed on same hardware). Plus i know is not a driver issue since i have 2 pcs and 2 laptops, each with a different speed and different setup.

This is not something am making up or experiencing alone.

you can read at the adobe flash linux blog, hundreds of users complaining.

I don't see how they can claim that this is fixed, when it is still significantly slower than windows. Running 9.0.124.0 and full screen youtube videos are choppy. This is on a Core2 Duo with an nVidia Quadro FX 570M (512MB). I've got windows running on another old laptop (don't remember the exact specs, but it's about a Pentium 2.4Ghz, ATI 1300 (shared), 768MB ram, and full screen flash runs smooth. Normal sized elements still run significantly slower, but not as noticeable as full screen.

So no, this issue has not been fixed!
