Idea #3586: (RSS/Atom) Feeds for Brainstorm ideas, comments, etc.

Written by forteller the 6 Mar 08 at 18:26. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Status: New
Rationale
It would be great to have feeds for everything in Brainstorm; Comments, newly submitted ideas, most popular ideas, and anything else that I haven't thought of yet. As it is today it's quite hard to follow a discussion here. And good discussions about the ideas are half the point if this site, right?

The exist, just hard to find them since there are no links to them. http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/rss2 I believe for the main page. Just add rss2 on the end of the address for a category.

Yes, there're links. In firefox, you will see the Orange RSS Logo in the URL Bar, just press it.

I'm quite sure that wasn't there when I submitted this idea!

But there's still no feeds for the discussions/comments, so the idea is still valid.

They are there the just don't work right. For instance: I use Google reader for my feeds. I subscribed to "most popular ideas today" and when I see a topic I want to read, I click on it, it takes me to http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/item/3586/-07-03-2008 (this topic) which is a blank page, where it should take me to is http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/3586/

Another thing is, When being subscribed to this feed I get updates as soon as someone votes on something, and I see the same thing multiple times throughout the day. It should only update once per day, and the feed for "most popular this week" should only update once per week and so on.

You can remove the date at the end of the url that google reader takes you to to see the page.

this is not a solution... this is a bug to correct

The orange RSS icon should be displayed next to each of the categories and "Most Popular *" links on the left panel, IMO.

I agree, shlomil!

2 things would be nice to have:

1. Comments within the RSS feeds for "Most Popular *" etc. When a new comment comes in it should dirty/republish the feed.

2. RSS for a specific topic that gets dirtied/republished on new comments
