Rationale
This is the most annoying feature in ubuntu for me. Consider you play some media. Open the directory where your movie / song is located. Then open totem / vlc player. Now you click on the required movie to drag-n-drop into vlc player. Right after you click focus completely shifts to nautilus and vlc goes to background thus making it hard to drag and drop.
Windows gives focus to explorer only when the click is completed ( ie you press and release the mouse button ).
Ubuntu gives focus just on press.
This is the same as http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/2567/ I submitted it as a dupe hoping it would combine our votes. Hopefully it won't affect this idea's status as a popular idea.
It would be VERY NICE if this problem with the lost of window foucs during drag and drop would be fixed. I wondered why this has not been done since the last Ubuntu releases??
Totally agree !
It is really annoying. Even if I'm not a Windows lover at all. Its particular way to doing drag'n'drop here, is better than with nautilus/kde
I give a thumbs up to this idea. But I strongly feel this has something to do with GNOME rather than Ubuntu. It would be nice if someone files this as a feature request in GNOME bugzilla.
so what?
shuttleworth calls the shots in gnome, too.
canonical definitely has engineers in the gnome i would bet, and gnome is the standard desktop for ubuntu..
this IS an ubuntu problem, because it applies to the standard user interface of Ubuntu Linux.
either Canonical introduces its own patches for totem and nautilus at least, or they hand an official feature request upstream to their people @ Gnome ...
