Description
Ubuntu is great but when it comes time to develop php apps we rapidly miss some extensions. Mandriva for example have almost all existing php extensions as separate package you can install and keep up to date easily.

For example have readline and/or libedit extension without the need to recompile php by hand would be greatly appreciated.
Php-gtk2 will be a good thing too (now that there's a stable release out there)

I love the idea, but I think that Ubuntu is meant to target end users over developers by default. Still, they need to make development packages like this more intuitive for developers interested in doing work in Ubuntu. I hope they consider it.

yes, I would like to have php-gtk2 module directly integrated in ubuntu repository. There is some externals repository working very nice, but it would be easier have them in ubuntu.

I use php just like perl, to make anything, but not like perl, php source code is readable even by other or long time after having writen some code. Php oject orientation is very fine and nearly complete. Php is just like python and ruby.

php-gtk2 please :-)
I think part of the problem with some of the extensions is that they require certain versions of other packages to function completely. I found this with imagick, as the version of ImageMagick that was packaged with Ubuntu (feisty) was too old, so I had to download the source for the newer version, and compile the imagick extension against that in order to get everything working. That's since changed, but wouldn't be surprised if similar issues exist elsewhere.
