Idea #3194: optimize Phone/PIM Synchronisation

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #28: Enhance mobile devices sync .
Written by tlue the 4 Mar 08 at 22:27. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Status: New
Rationale
Optimize Synchronisation between all kind of Handys/Smartphones (especially Business-Handys) and the different PIM-Applications (like i.e. Kontact).

KitchenSync is a good starting point but should be even more intuitive and automatically be launched, when a phone is detected i.e. by bluethoth.

It would be great if also access to the smartcard in the phone could be integrated in that tool (i.e. for pdf-files or mp3 etc.)

It would even be great if one could do a backup of the phone to the pc like with the proprietary software delivered with the phone (this would certainly be an enormous task, but i.e there could be a label "linux-friendly" for new phone-products)

Thanks for posting your own ideas. The main part of your idea is a duplicate of idea 28. Concerning the other ideas :

Backup : Currently, if we think about it, a sync with any software can be considered as a backup (especially with the file plugin of opensync) and it's the only way to do it since the informations on the smartphones are not "files" or "partitions".

Files : And for smartphones with little storage, accessing a bluetooth OBEX device through standard Gnome or KDE bluetooth components is already implemented and easy to use. It's probably better than a separate software since you can access files like any other storage media.

According to these points, I set this idea as a duplicate of idea 28. If you believe that one of the ideas you described should still be developped, please open a new idea with more details about one specific idea.

Thanks for your participation in brainstorm!
