Description
Mac OSX has a very intuitive program to automate common tasks. Ubuntu should have a default automation program.
Perhaps even provide GUI's for terminal commands for batch files and processes.

There are some similar program, but a Ubuntu integrated program with "native" programs would be great.

We have that already, it's called a "shellscript". :)
But yeah, and easy way of doing those sorts of things would be awesome. A gui-script-programming-thingy.. hmm. that would be totally rad actually!

Great idea. But I think it is not job of Ubuntu to develop it. 3rd party developers should develop it and then Ubuntu include it.

I am glad people have posted alternatives. But see thats the point, new users should have to visit forums and search online for software alternatives. It should work out of the box. Also if we want ot improve the transition to Linux from other OS's then we must also provide tools users are familiar with!

I do not agree with you spider. Although good alternatives should be available for every application that runs on what OS so ever, you can't expect Ubuntu to install all of them out of the box. I don't see why an app like this should be installed by default, certainly not because people who use an automater are skilled enough to search in the synaptic repository or on the web for the desired application.

The proposed automator should have some MarcoPolo like functionality. I'm just now looking for some way of running spesific scripts upon logging into a wireless network. More than one of the WLANs I use require me to login to them. Other use case for me is that I want to connect to my home server with the same network name regardless if I'm behind my NAT or not.

A GUI front end for editing crontab would be good. It exists for Kubuntu, but not for Ubuntu.
