Rationale
This is more of a wishlist item for me. I know that the developers try really hard to fix all the bugs, etc. I really appreciate all the work going on in Kubuntu. however, the last time I installed Kubuntu on a system (7.10, 3 months old), I ended up giving up and switching to Ubuntu. And I am a die hard Kubuntu fan.
The reason is because Kubuntu just wasn't up to the standard I would expect from the Ubuntu mentality. For one, KNetworkManager was disabling getting an IP from DHCP on startup. This was a bug, but it took them 3-5 months to fix it even though it had been on the forums from day one. Secondly, compiz fusion just plain didn't work, no matter how much tweaking and advice from forums I obtained.
I have found on the wiki a todo list which needs to be accomplished to get Kubuntu up to par with the Gnome version Ubuntu:
Please do not post GNOME vs KDE flamewars in the comments section of this idea. All I want is for people to consider spending more time on the Kubuntu polish.
It's not the features for me. If Gnome has a feature that KDE doesn't have, I think that is fine (maybe use the Gnome program if you have to in KDE) but when the same functionality works great in Gnome but you go to KDE and its version is broke, not because the program is broken but because of poor integration, then that is a problem in my opinion.
Example: KNetworkManager. The program is fine on other distros, its integration into ubuntu was done very poorly
