Idea #30504: You should not need a special tool to make a USB installer

bug This entry was marked as not being an idea the 22 January 13. If this is a bug report, please use the Ubuntu bug tracker.
Written by drinkypoo the 22 Jan 13 at 14:25. Category: Internet & Networking. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: Not an idea
Rationale
With Debian, upon which Ubuntu is based, you can simply dd the iso file to a USB stick in order to create a USB installer. With Ubuntu, you must use the magical software creator. This is an arduous requirement because it makes it hard to install Ubuntu on new hardware which might not have an optical drive if you don't already have a machine running Ubuntu.

Solution #1: Make Hybrid ISOs like Debian
Written by drinkypoo the 22 Jan 13 at 14:25.
Solve this problem however Debian solved it. You can dd their iso to a USB stick and it becomes an installer.

I think they actually fixed this about 3 or 4 release ago. Can anyone confirm this?
