Why should this be included in UbuntuOne instead of using one of the many sharing tools already included. If I remember correctly, you can share any folder in about 5 clicks by right-clicking on it. Not only does that mean you can share ANY folder, it's also compatible with Windows and Mac systems (it uses Samba).

I see you made a few alterations to your rationale and solution. It now reads quite differently. At first I thought you were trying to make it so that people with different UbuntuOne accounts could access your files (with your permission of course). Now it appears that you simply want the ability to sync separate computer (with the *same* account) directly to each other instead of having to connect to the remote server, allowing you to save upstream bandwidth. This could also allow devices to sync when there is a network (be it an isolated local network or an ad-hoc connection). Is this correct? If so, you should specifically point those out, it will *greatly* aid in getting up-votes for your ideas :)

As a stop-gap I'd like to point out that you can save your cell-phone's data bandwidth by using the wifi of your mobile to connect to UbuntuOne's servers, but this of course won't save the bandwidth of your normal ISP connection.

LAN sync makes perfect sense.

Dropbox and SpiderOak already have this option, enabled by default — not only does it reduce use of limited data plans for some people, but also it is much faster for people with low bandwidth.
