Idea #28774: finding and opening of a certain file takes time with file browser

bug This idea was marked as being not considered for implementation the 31 October 11.
Written by harun3d the 25 Oct 11 at 21:37. Related project: Nautilus. Status: Won't implement
Rationale
The "places" menu in main menu has no further dropdown menus to open a document in your documents folder directly from main menu without opening file browser. This was always possible in windows OS. This is very usefull. It has no sense to make a places menu in main menu when you cannot enter more then one level under the places menu.

Every time when you want to open a document in your documents folder you need to go to the main menu then take places, then documents. Then a new window (file browser) will be opened. There you choose e.g. abc.doc file. Then you don't need the file browser any more. You have to close it. Or if you don't close it, it will increase the number of windows when you have many windows open. So you will have less control over your windows.

Solution #1: browse through all files with dropdown menus in main menu
Written by harun3d the 25 Oct 11 at 21:37.
A dropdown menu for documents and other favorite folders like music, usb stick, file system in places menu under main menu can be placed to increase the speed of finding and opening any document.

So, to open the document \home\me\documents\example.doc you go to main menu > places > documents > example.doc WITHOUT OPENING FILE BROWSER directly from the main menu.

So you can access much more documents directly from main menu with dropdown menus through many files without opening file browser

Solution #1: Although this is a nice idea, the menu system is being removed with the advent of Unity. Therefore, this solution will no longer be relevant.
